Recent Photography 012026

Yo! Welcome to a photography centered edition of PROCSSS. Today I'll be sharing some recent photo work spanning from dilapidated houses in the University Park area of Los Angeles to images from the General Strike demonstration on 1/30/2026. Let's dive in...
Still Standing (University Park, Los Angeles)

Gentrification is a destructive force in that it erases the structural history of neighborhoods. It's plain to see in an area like University Park/West Adams, a place that has been consumed by USC's insatiable expansion. Presently it's very difficult to imagine a time when the area wasn't a sea of overpriced apartments and trendy eateries but in truth, it was a completely different place just 20 years ago. You can still see traces of what once was if you look carefully.
I've recently been drawn to photographing the structures that are still standing but haven't been converted into fraternity houses or repurposed in any other way. They likely destined for demolition because they have fallen into disrepair or stand on a lot that will be redeveloped. Documenting these locations before they disappear is really important in our current information environment, where history itself is under assault by bots and prompts. It is one of the reasons documentary photography remains so important.

General Strike, Los Angeles 01302026

Our country has been in a bad place for a while but it seems like everyday people are beginning to realize how dire things are. They took the government but they will never take the culture...
The demonstration in Los Angeles in support of the General Strike and against the ICE/CBP abuses felt like the start of something bigger. I honestly hope that it was because it's going to take A LOT more for us to dig ourselves out of the complacency, casual racism, and historic inequities that got us here in the first place.
