Bus Stops(2016-2019)
Documentary Photography Zine by Nonstndrd Creative Projects

Bus Stops (2016-2019) is a photography zine released in 2025 by Nonstndrd Creative Projects. Centered around a set of photographs depicting bus stop scenes from around Los Angeles and Pasadena, it is from a period when my documentary street practice was in high gear. I worked at ArtCenter College of Design and was primarily based out of their South Campus location when I created these photographs. As a result, I documented my immediate surroundings daily over the period of several years, recording life in this interesting part of Pasadena that stretched from the start of the 110 freeway to Old Pasadena at Colorado Blvd. I also took the train to work every Friday during this time, which gave me the opportunity to photograph Downtown Los Angeles regularly as well.
My focus on bus stops goes back to when I first began taking pictures. Back then, I relied solely on public transportation and my bike to get around the city so I spent a lot of time waiting around and observing. The work of Anthony Hernandez and Jamel Shabazz was an enormous influence on the work I was making at the time (and that remains true to this day).
In fact, the center spread from the zine (above) was taken at the same corner (3rd St. and Vermont Ave.) as “Public Transit Areas #12: Los Angeles, 1980” by Anthony Hernandez, 39 years apart.
