Welcome to Archival Recordings 42!
This entry is about a particular stretch of Cahuenga Blvd. in Hollywood that has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past decade. Between Fountain and De Longpre specifically, Cahuenga has gone from being lined with body shops and the back of ABC Studios to an almost solid block of luxury apartments. To those unfamiliar with what used to be there I'm sure the area is unremarkable but to those of us who know, it's downright surreal.
I was drawn to photographing this neighborhood back in 2015, a time when I was documenting the neighborhoods that I grew up in extensively. I was focused on recording the changes that Hollywood, Mid-City, and Koreatown were undergoing because it was all disappearing so quickly. It seemed like every week there was another project (typically a luxury apartment building) breaking ground, replacing the structures that I remembered.
